Violinist Tomaž Lorenz received his bachelor's and master's degree in violin and chamber music from the Ljubljana Academy of Music in the class of Professor Leon Pfeifer.  He continued his studies with renowned concert professionals and music teachers in Rome, Siena, Trieste and Budapest. As a soloist, member of Trio Lorenz and many other chamber ensembles Lorenz has performed on concert stages of musical capitals of most European countries, Canada, the USA, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Israel, India, Kenya and Iran.  He also pursues his teaching career as Full Professor for Chamber Music and the Chair of Orchestral and Chamber Music at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana. He has led 26 seminars, workshops and master classes in chamber music in Slovenia and abroad. 

His recorded output is impressive, comprising LPs, audio and video cassettes, DVDs and over 30 CDs.

Slovenian music forms a large and important part of his repertoire; Lorenz has delivered first-time performances of a near 100 solo and chamber music works. Between 1996 and 2006 Tomaž Lorenz was Artistic Director of the Musical July on the Coast, the summer academy for Slovenia's most talented young musicians.  He is Artistic Director of the »Primož Ramovš« Slovenian Chamber Music Ensemble Competition and the »Leon Pfeifer« Young Violinist Competition.  Ensembles from his chamber music class compete, frequently and with much success, take part in the music competitions in Slovenia and abroad and have won top prizes at the Slovenian and international music competitions. Four of them have been awarded Prešeren Prize by the Academy of Music in Ljubjana.

For his extensive work, Tomaž Lorenz has received numerous recognitions, being awarded with three awards of the Prešeren Fund, two awards of the Slovenian Composers Society, the Župančič Award and Škerjanc Diploma for outstanding achievements in the field of education and teaching. In 1967 he won the first prize at the 5th Yugoslavian Young Musicians Competition in Zagreb. Tomaž Lorenz is an honorary member of the Slovenian Composers Society and the Musical Youth of Ljubljana.
