The Finnish violinist Päivyt Meller began her soloist career at the tender age of five.

She started her violin studies in Oulu under the guidance of Tatyana Pogozeva and Pertti Sutinen before moving to Helsinki and the Sibelius Academy. There she worked as a student of Anja Ignatius, earning her diploma at the age of 15. She further trained in the United States with Josef Gingold (1979-1983 at Indiana University) and with Victor Liberman in Holland (1983-1986). 1986-87 she enjoyed a scholarship from the International Menuhin Music Academy in Switzerland. She has twice (1977 and 1990) been among the prize winners at the National Violin Competition in Kuopio.

Mrs. Meller has been on the teaching staff of the Sibelius Academy since 1990. She was the Artistic Director of the Raudaskylä International master-classes and has authored numerous articles of pedagogical content and published a book introducing Tatyana Pogozeva’s particular Russian method of teaching violin playing to children. Päivyt Meller has appeared in concerts in Finland and abroad and has served as leader of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra.
