EXPLORING NEW PATHS WITH MUSIC

Organisation:
Department of Musicology of The Faculty of Arts
President: dr. Leon Stefanija
in cooperance with the Academy of Music
The purpose of the symposium is to find answers to questions that have been posed to music artists at a time after the that is
ripe for exploring new paths after the era of modernism and postmodernism. While certain composers strive to uphold the
principles introduced by the modernism and developed further by postmodernism, such as the a-thematic, amorphous rhythms, open form, renunciation of folklore elements, renunciation of verticals based on the alyquot principle, others withdraw from these features that had entered the world of music in several parts of the 20th century. In both these aspects, composers have
created major musical pieces which, however, differ signifi cantly in concept. The main benefit of the symposium may lie in the very diversity of its participants, music artists and analysts from Slovenia, Italy, and Austria. The symposium will be led by a renowned Slovenia’s musicologist and an outstanding analyst of Slovenia’s musical pieces, Dr Leon Stefanija, in cooperation with the professors of the Department of Musicology at the Faculty of Arts (University of Ljubljana), professors of the Department for Composition and Musical Theory of the Academy of Music (UL), members of the Society of Slovene Composers, and foreign lecturers. The symposium will end with a concert by the soloist orchestra of the Society of Slovene Composers and orchestral fi rst performances of the works of Slovene composers.
