The NORTHERN CALIFORNIA JAZZ CHOIR from St. Helena, California was started by director Craig Bond in 1982. Along with directing the Northern California Jazz Choir Mr. Bond is also the director of vocal jazz for the St. Helena Unified School District. In addition, Mr. Bond directs the St. Helena Children’s Chorus, St. Helena Teen Chorus, St. Helena Chamber Singers, St. Helena Chamber Orchestra and the Jazz @ 7 Vocal Ensemble. These choral groups are all part of the non-profit "St. Helena Choral Society” The small community of St. Helena is located in the beautiful Napa Valley wine region of California just 70 miles North of San Francisco.
The NORTHERN CALIFORNIA JAZZ CHOIR has traveled to Europe during the summers of 1982, 1985, 1989, 1993, 1997, 2000, 2002, 2004 ,2006, 2008, 2010 and now in 2012. This summer marks the 12th European trip for the choir.
This outstanding jazz choir is made up of 23 singers and 3 instrumentalists.. The choir performs a variety of vocal music including blues, swing, bebop, pop, jazz and gospel.
The jazz choir has won many awards over the years including 1st place and sweepstakes awards at the Reno Nevada International Jazz Festival; the Heritage Jazz Festival in Anaheim, California; The Festival of Music in Seattle , Washington; the Redding Vocal Jazz Festival in Redding, California and the Northwest Vocal Jazz Festival in Portland, Oregon.
