Raoul & the WiseMen is a young band from Amsterdam . Growing up with pop music of the 70's and 80's, and influenced by old jazz heroes, they accumulated the sound of motown (Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson), translated it into jazz and brought it back to a folky Singer-Songwriter style of composing. Including Violin and Upright Bass in the band gives them the opportunity to play different styles but maintain their own voice, their distinctive sound. The members are experienced in many different formations and bring just the best mix of influences into the band. As a result of this freedom in expressing themselves in the music, they can combine their playing well with the lyrics and compositions of singer and bandleader Raoul Wijsma. His lyrics are the spontaneous expression of emotion. They are honest and partly originate from personal experiences, but also mirrored are situations of love and life.
